adidas Might Leave Swimming
LONDON, England, November 29. ACCORDING to an article in the London Times, adidas might wind up going the way of Nike by leaving the most elite levels of the sport due to issues regarding high-tech suits.
The Times reported the following:
adidas may be about to follow Nike's flight from professional swimming. The German company, which has poured tens of millions of dollars into the sport over the past 10 years, warned it could abandon competitive swimming and the race suit market if the sport does not introduce "fair and professional" rules and approval processes.
This report follows USA Swimming's proposed legislation making alterations to the types of suits allowed, and as FINA prepares for a conversation in February to discuss some of the issues coming about due to the high-tech suit debate.
