ACC Meet Of The Week: Notre Dame Crushes Dennis Stark Relay Meet
Notre Dame hosted its annual Dennis Stark Relay Meet Friday afternoon and swept every event on the schedule. The meet, named for the first head coach of both the women’s and men’s programs at the school, also featured the men and women from IUPUI, Wright State and Olivet Navarene, as well as the Oakland men and the Bowling Green and Indiana State women.
The Irish women got things started on the right foot as Erin Sheehan, Sofia Revilak and Nikki Smith set a meet record in the 3×100 butterfly relay, clocking 2:47.16. Meaghan O’Donnell, Sherri McIntee and Smith combined to clock 3:13.17 for a meet record in the 3×100 breaststroke relay, and the other meet record went to the Irish’s Catherine Mulquin, Danielle Margheret, Revilak and Abbie Dolan, who swam a 3:44.13 in the more-traditional 400 medley relay.
The Irish finished one-two in the women’s and men’s 3×100 fly relays, the women’s and men’s 3×100 breast relays, the women’s and men’s 800 free relay, the women’s 4×100 medley, the women’s 4×200 free, women’s 4×50 free, women’s 4×100 IM and women’s 4×100 free.
Alice Treuth, Katie Miller, Lauren Heller, Kyra Sarazen, Reilly Lanigan, Ellie Berdusco, Kelly Jacob, Paige Kaplan and Lauren Heller also contributed to women’s relay wins.
Relay winners on the men’s side included Matt Grauslys, Justin Plaschka, Kevin Bradley, Robby Whitacre, Jack Montesi, Joe Turk, Trent Jackson, Riley Rex, Steven Shek, Aaron Schultz, Reed Fujan, Tom Anderson, Benjamin Jany, Daniel Speers, Connor Brown, Richard Manix, Nick Milikich and Kevin Bradley.
In the pairs’ diving events, Claire Andrews and Annie Crea combined to win the women’s one-meter, and Andrews teamed with Christine Stitcher to win the three-meter. On the men’s side, Joseph Coumos and Peter Myers won both the one-meter and the three-meter.
The Irish scored 154 points on both the women’s and men’s sides. The next closest teams in the team race were Bowling Green (women) with 98 and Okaland (men) with 90. Full results from the relay meet are available here.
One day later, the Irish hosted the Indiana State women and Oakland men for a traditional dual meet and again dominated. Smith won both the 50 and 100 free and contributed to the Notre Dame win in the 200 medley relay, and on the men’s side, Whitaker swept the backstrokes and also grabbed first in the 200 IM.
Notre Dame’s women took down Indiana State 179-81, and the men beat Oakland 175-107.
