NEW COMMIT: The University of Massachusetts has landed a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Western Springs, Ill. native Megan Mitchell. Mitchell will join her two sisters in Amherst next year: Katie is a freshman and Paige is a junior for the Minutemen.
A talented backstroker and butterflyer, Mitchell swims year-round with Academy Bullets Swim Club. She competed in four events at NCSAs in March after racing to seventh in the 200 fly at Illinois Seniors in February. A team captain at Lyons Township High School, she holds the school record as a member of the 200 medley relay and competed at the Illinois State Championships during both her sophomore and junior seasons.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.72
- 100 back – 57.01
- 200 back – 2:02.53
- 100 fly – 57.87
Mitchell, who will also join Maggie Desmond next fall, will make an immediate impact in the Minutemen’s backstroke group. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back and 200 back at the 2019 A-10 Championships where Massachusetts finished fifth overall in the team standings.
