A Look At the Psych Sheets For This Week’s International Team Trials; Premier Clashes On Tap
Here is another look at the psych sheets for this week’s International Team Trials, which will run from Tuesday through Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The competition will be used to select the squad which will represent the United States at this summer’s World Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest.
Of course, Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky are the biggest names set to compete, with the multi-time Olympic champions scheduled to take on busy programs. Dressel is entered in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, 100 fly and 50 free, while Ledecky has entries in the 800, 200, 400 and 1500 free. Dressel was the Olympic champion in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly at last summer’s Games in Tokyo while Ledecky was the gold medalist in the 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle, and added a silver medal in the 400 freestyle.
One of the most-anticipated events on the program is the women’s 100 butterfly, where a quartet of stars will chase the two available berths to Budapest. Olympians Torri Huske, Regan Smith and Claire Curzan will battle with Kate Douglass and Kelsi Dahlia. While Douglass was the star of the recent NCAA Women’s Championships, Curzan has enjoyed a superb tuneup season on the road to Greensboro.
On the men’s side, the 200 individual medley will be a can’t-miss event, with the foursome of Michael Andrew, Chase Kalisz, Carson Foster, Kieran Smith and Shaine Casas slated to face off. Kalisz was the 2017 world champion in the event and looked sharp earlier this year.
Notable absences include Erica Sullivan and Simone Manuel.
