A Look at the High School National Swim Records As Scholastic Season Picks up Pace
The high school season is already in full force, with Florida holding the first of its championship competitions over the weekend. At the Class 4A level, rising star Rylee Erisman set a public-school record in the 50-yard freestyle while representing Windermere High School. Erisman, a finalist in the 50 freestyle at the United States Olympic Trials, won the event in 21.61 to break the previous record of Olympian Abbey Weitzeil.
The scholastic season will stretch into the late spring, when California wraps up the championship campaign and, if history is any indicator, several high school national records will come under fire in the coming months.
Now that the high school championship season has started, Swimming World is providing a reminder of the current national records. These performances must have been set during high school competition, so times registered for a club team do not count.
The names of Olympic champions who continue to hold records are impressive, ranging from Ryan Murphy at the Bolles School to Katie Ledecky, who represented Stone Ridge. Enjoy a look at the fastest high school times ever produced, and appreciate the work of these young athletes.
These records are wrong. Last year Torri huske broke both the overall and public hs records in the 100 fly (49.95) and 200 IM (1:53.73 in the same meet 23 minutes apart. Both records were recognized NISCA. It was also reported by swimmingworld on 2-25-21.
That’s exactly what the list says….unless i’m missing something..lol
