757Swim Names Jackie Whitty Head Age Group Coach
Williamsburg, Va.— After an extensive search process, 757swim has hired Jackie Whitty as 757swim’s new Head Age Group Coach. Jackie will assume duties of the position heading into the 2018 fall swim season at 757swim. Her position will be responsible for swimmers primarily in the age group category.
Jackie arrives to 757swim from Westfield, New Jersey, where she has spent the last 10 years as the Westfield Area YMCA’s Head Age Group Coach and Assistant Senior Level Coach. She also was instrumental in instituting and administering Westfield’s private lessons program, and Masters swim program. During her tenure there, Westfield YMCA grew to 250 swimmers, and became a nationally ranked YMCA swim club . Jackie assisted the head coach with multiple YMCA national level qualifiers and developed many age group swimmers to the YMCA state level and beyond. Jackie also transformed and oversaw the dry land program for the Westfield Area YMCA.
Prior to coaching at Westfield YMCA, she coached for one year at her alma mater, The College of New Jersey, where she also swam for 4 years helping the women’s team earn 4 NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) titles. In addition, she has coached the Jersey Area Masters out of Princeton, NJ. She herself has been competing at the master’s level for over 10 years now, with a special passion for open water swims.
“I am beyond excited to have Jackie join our staff. She and I share the common goal of helping swimmers develop the tools they need to reach their personal goals both in and out of the pool. Jackie is a passionate, experienced, and talented coach,” remarked 757swim Head Coach Morgan Cordle. “She is driven and has an extraordinary work ethic but also is compassionate and an excellent communicator. Her hiring was absolutely essential, given the substantial growth we have been experiencing.”
Coach Whitty is equally excited to join the 757swim family, stating that coaching the team will be ‘a unique and exciting opportunity’. “At this point in my career, I am motivated to grow along with a team that is looking to continue to build towards the future, and 757swim jumped out at me as such a team. I believe the opportunity that 757swim offers is a great way to move my career in this direction. I feel very strongly that the development of the younger age groups positively impacts a team’s success and I am thrilled to be a part of such a program at 757swim,” said Whitty in reaction to the announcement of her appointment.
The team’s search committee of Brian Vereb, Luis Long and Samantha Shearer spearheaded the search process that ultimately resulted in Whitty’s hiring. “757swim’s age group program could not be in better hands! Jackie and the rest of the amazing coaching staff will continue to provide the enthusiastic, forward thinking, technically sound, team first coaching experience that is second to none,” Long added in a response to the hiring announcement.
757swim opens its signup period now for its fall session, and is holding formal open houses and swimmer placement sessions at its training facility, the new WISC Aquatic Center on 5700 Warhill Trail. Swimmers and their families are invited to come, learn what 757swim is all about in a no pressure environment, and determine if year round swimming might be a great activity for them.
