58.9/2:09 Breaststroker Lucy Thomas Verbally Commits to Stanford for 2023

NEW COMMIT: Brookfield, Wisconsin native and National qualifier Lucy Thomas – the top breaststroker in her class – has verbally committed to Stanford University for the 2023-24 season.

She will join Caroline Bricker on the Farm as a member of the Cardinal’s Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I couldn’t be more excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic journey at Stanford University!! I couldn’t have done this without the help of my family, friends, coaches, teachers, and teammates who have made this possible!! GO TREES?❤️”

Thomas, who trains year-round with Elmbrook Swim Club, had six top-5 finishes at Minneapolis Sectionals this summer, including a win in the 100m breast. She finished sixth in the 50m breast at Phillips 66 International Team Trials in the spring, too.

Thomas was also the gold medalist at the NCSA Championships in the 50 free, 50 breast, 100 breast and was the runner-up in the 200 breast.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breaststroke – 58.93
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:09.16
  • 50 freestyle – 22.33
  • 100 freestyle  49.23
  • 200 IM – 1:59.16
  • 200 freestyle – 1:46.82

A rising senior at Brookfield East High School, Thomas is a six-time individual Wisconsin DI State Championship finalist. She won the 100 breast and 200 free as a junior, taking first in the 100 breast and second in the 200 IM as a sophomore.

Thomas is already fast enough to have scored in the B-final of the 100 breast at the 2022 NCAA Championships. She would’ve been the runner-up in that event at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships as well.
