Laramie Wins, Sani Carsrud Sets Two Wyoming 4A State Records

After Lander Valley won the Wyoming Girls 3A High School State Championships on Friday the 4A meet dove in today. Laramie took home the team title. Complete team scores were not yet available.
Sheridan’s Jadyn Mullikin, Taylor Baldacci, Pippin Robison, and Zoe Robison combined for a winning 1:48.27 in the opening 200 medley relay. Cheyenne Central snagged second with the team of Hannah Birge, Sammy Geyer, Logan Anderson, and Porscha Cavanaugh in 1:49.51. Green River picked up third in 1:50.88 with Lauren Jensen, Jesse Lauze, Avery Otto, and Ashley Jensen.
Three swimmers, all seniors, broke two minutes in the 200 free: Thunder Basin’s Sani Carsrud (1:53.13), Sheridan’s Molly Green (1:54.04), and Laramie’s Maggie Clerkin (1:55.23). Carsrud was also victorious in the 500 free with her 5:11.48. Clerkin was on her heels in 5:13.89. Carsrud’s prelims times in both events (1:51.13 and 5:07.71) were both 4A state records.
Green later took first in the 100 back (58.13) while Sheridan’s Piper Carrol was runner up (59.34) and Green River freshman Lauren Jensen also cleared a minute (59.48).
With a 2:09.47 Jenny Holwell of Campbell County- Gillette took top honors in the 200 IM. Her senior teammate Sammy Geyer clocked a 23.59 to finish second in the 50 free. Laramie sophomore Olivia McPherson won the event with a 23.44. Geyer had the upper hand in the 100 free, touching out McPherson 50.52 to 50.71. Holwell also topped the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.20. Sheridan’s Taylor Baldacci (1:05.86) finished runner up.
Green River senior Otoo led the way in the 100 fly, finishing in 57.86. Rock Springs senior Ali Lange won one meter diving with a score of 448.10.
In 1:36.68 Carter Burchi, Catie Weathermon, Clerkin, and McPherson earned 200 freestyle relay gold for Laramie. That time marked a new 4A State record. Laramie (swimmer names were not available) also won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:33.16, another 4A State Record.
