June 29, 2016 was big day for USA Swimming. Not only did his efforts in the 200 fly qualify Michael Phelps for his fifth-straight Olympic Games, but the women’s event brought some attention along with it as well.
After being disqualified in the 200 butterfly for kicking on her back, the call on Cammile Adams was overturned after video review. She then went on to finish fourth in this event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
And this was just one event…aside from the 200 fly, the women’s 200 freestyle and 200 IM were also decided. Missy Franklin swam her way onto the Olympic Team and Melanie Margalis touched out reigning Olympic bronze medalist Caitlin Leverenz in the 200 IM.
Swimming World is digging into the archives this week to recap all these great swims and intense moments from the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Splashbacks from day 1, day 2 and day 3 are also available.
