2023 Big 12 Championships, Day 3: Kelly Pash, Olivia Bray in Position to Repeat
Such is the all-encompassing depth and superiority of the University of Texas squad that they can afford to mix and match at meets like the 2023 Big 12 Championships. With national qualifying times in hand and NCAA options secure, the Longhorns could explore different possibilities in some events, which it did on Day 2 of the meet.
Kelly Pash and Olivia Bray are both vying to repeat as champions, in the 100 butterfly and 400 individual medley, respectively, as the Longhorns chase their 11th consecutive conference title on both sides of the draw.

Men’s 100 breaststroke
Ooh, a rare non 1-2 for Texas. That’s thanks to TCU’s Jadon Wuilliez, who blasted a 52.22 to take the second seed. He’s .02 ahead of Caspar Corbeau. William Chan of Texas is the top seed in 51.94. Corbeau won the event last year in 50.96 with Wuilliez second.

Women’s 100 backstroke
The 100 backstroke is apparently the odd event out for Texas this week, with only one A finalist produced by the Longhorns. That’s Megan DiMartile, who finished sixth in prelims at 54.70, though the freshman could still win the event, carrying the fastest seed time (53.12) to enter the meet. Texas won the event last year via the graduated Julia Cook, and Emma Sticklen was the runner-up.
That means the other schools under the heel of Texas get to shine for a change. Kansas’s Lezli Sisung grabbed the top seed with a 53.52. Iowa State’s Liz Richardson followed in 54.47, .04 up on Jacqueline McCutchan of West Virginia and .07 up on TCU’s Rylee Moore.
