2022 Pac-12 Women’s Championships Day 3 Finals: Regan Smith, Kaitlyn Dobler Break Pac-12 Records
The 2022 Pac-12 Women’s Championship continued with the Day 3 finals session from Federal Way, Washington.
The session includes platform diving, the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay.
Stanford took the early lead on Wednesday night by winning the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay and continued that by winning the 200 free relay, plus the 200 IM and a tie for the 50 free.
Stanford comes into the day with 648.5 points. But USC is in second place after two days (549.5), ahead of Cal (486.5).
Regan Smith, Torri Huske sand Brooke Forde earned wins, while Stanford won the 400 medley relay to continue to lead.
Meanwhile, USC’s Kaitlyn Dobler broke the meet record in the 100 breaststroke as she continues her stellar season.

Pac-12 Women’s 400 IM
Stanford senior Brooke Forde dropped six seconds from her prelims time to cruise to a three-second victory in the 400 IM.
Forde touched the wall in 4:00.76 to hold off Cal freshman Leah Polonsky (4:03.90), who dropped more than eight seconds from prelims.
USC’s Calypso Sheridan took third after dropping six seconds and finishing in 4:07.18, holding off Cal’s Alicia Wilson (4:09.27).

Pac-12 Women’s 100 Butterfly
The anticipated showdown between Stanford freshmen Torri Huske and Regan Smith did not disappoint in the 100 butterfly.
Huske dropped nearly a full second from prelims to earn the victory in 49.43 seconds, nearly overtaking the Pac-12 record of 49.26 set by Louise Hansson.
Smith was second in 49.87 just a little behind as she started her double (100 backstroke later). Again Huske started strong and held on, while Smith finished strong, and they finished less than a half second apart.
Stanford junior Emma Wheal took third in 52.02, giving the Cardinal a 1-2-3 finish.
USC’s Anicka Delgado took fourth in 52.25, followed by Cal junior Rachel Klinker (52.32).

Pac-12 Women’s 200 Freestyle
Cal senior Isabel Ivey threw down a strong back half of the race to win the 200 freestyle in 1:42.29 and hold off USC senior Laticia Transom by just two tenths of a second.
Both swimmers were two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Stanford’s Morgan Tankersley finished third in 1:44.28, followed by Cal junior Mia Motekaitis (1:44.48), Arizona State senior Erica Laning (1:44.67), Stanford freshman Lillie Norman (1:44.85), Cal junior Ayla Spitz (1:45.11) and Cal fifth-year Robin Neumann (1:46.81).

Arizona senior Delaney Schnell claimed a victory in the platform diving. She was the only one in the field to break 300 points and won with a score of 312.55.
USC junior Nike Agunbiade took second with 295.15, followed by Stanford’s Daria Lenz (273.05) and Julia Wortman (256.10).

USC sophomore Kaitlyn Dobler dropped nearly three tenths from her prelims time and broke the Pac-12 conference record to win the 100 breaststroke.
Dobler touched the wall in 57.31 to break the previous record of 57.36 set by Stanford’s Sarah Haase in 2016.
It also broke her own meet record of 57.68 set in prelims.
She finished more than two seconds ahead of the field.

Pac-12 Women’s 100 Backstroke
After finishing second in the 100 fly earlier in the evening, Stanford freshman Regan Smith surged to a Pac-12 Conference record in the 100 backstroke.
Smith won the race in 49.50, bettering her prelims time by 26 hundredths of a second. It broke the Pac-12 record of 46.69 set by Stanford’s Ally Howe in 49.69 in 2017.
Smith was more than a second ahead of the field. Cal sophomore Isabelle Stadden dropped a half second from prelims to take second in 51.08.
Stanford junior Taylor Ruck dropped three tenths and finished third in 51.21, finishing ahead of Arizona senior Aria Bernal (52.05), and Stanford’s Lucie Nordmann (52.17).

Pac-12 Women’s 400 Medley Relay
Stanford put together another dominant relay to claim another Pac-12 title. In the 400 medley relay, Regan Smith, Allie Raab, Torri Huske and Taylor Ruck won the event in 3:25.54, an NCAA “A” cut. Smith reset her conference record set earlier in the session.
The time was less than half a second away from the Pac-12 record.
USC’s Jade Hannah, Kaitlyn Dobler, Calypso Sheridan and Anicka Delgado also claimed an “A” cut to finish second in 3:29.09.
Cal’s Isabelle Stadden, Ema Rajic, Mia Kragh and Isabel Ivey took third in 3:29.68, also an “A” cut.
