2022 New South Wales State Open: Shayna Jack Wins 100 Free in Career-Best; Kaylee McKeown Dominates Backstroke

Shayna Jack started the 2022 New South Wales State Open Championships with an extremely fast swim in the 100 freestyle.

It highlighted the first night of the meet from the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center.

Going up against Australia’s best, Jack won the 100 free in 53.13 to claim the championship. She dropped nearly eight tenths of a second from her prelims swim and held off a start-studded field that included Mollie O’Callaghan (53.67), Madi Wilson (53.68), Ariarne Titmus (54.53) and Brianna Throssell (45.77).

It was the fastest swim of Jack’s career.

Meanwhile Kaylee McKeown won the 200 backstroke in 2:05.85 to crush the field by five seconds.

Throssell won the 50 butterfly in 26.24. Chelsea Hodges claimed the title in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:07.23. Meanwhile, Jenna Forrester won the 400 IM in 4:41.81.

In the men’s New South Wales State Open, Mitch Larkin won the 50 backstroke in 35.48, while Elijah Winnington wont he 500 freestyle in 3:47.05, holding off Brendon Smith (3:50.56) and Mack Horton (3:52.81).

Bowen Gough won the 200 butterfly in 1:57.70. Joshua Young won the 50 breaststroke in 27.89, just ahead of Matt Wilson (28.18). Zac Incerti wont he 100 freestyle (49.52).

The 2022 New South Wales State Open Championship continues the rest of the weekend from Sydney.

Anyone checking these articles? 50m backstroke in 35.48 and 500m freestyle?
