The 2022 NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the prelims of the 200 breaststroke.

Virginia’s Kate Douglass is in the event this year after doing the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly last year. This year it is the 50 free, 100 fly and the 200 breaststroke to close out the final day.

Douglass, who made the Olympic team in the 200 IM last year, set American records in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly earlier in the meet, also helping Virginia to a couple of records on relays.

But she will showcase her versatility with the 200 breaststroke added to her lineup.

Douglass dominated the final prelims heat to touch the wall in 2:03.67, well ahead of the field and about a second off of Lilly Kings NCAA and American record (2:02.60).

Meanwhile, the defending NCAA champion is NC State’s Sophie Hansson. Hansson won her heat with a time if 2:06.12, more than a half second ahead of the rest of her heat and took the overall third seed.

Texas sophomore Anna Elendt started to pull away in the fifth heat, and touched in a stunning 2:04.92, two seconds ahead of the rest of her heat. She has the second seed behind Douglass.

Virginia junior Ella Nelson took the fourth seed (2:06.21), ahead of Kentucky’s Gillian Davey (2:06.68), Alabama freshman Avery Wiseman (2:06.76) and Virginia sophomore Anna Keating (2:06.89).

Stanford senior Brooke Forde put together a strong face in heat four, pulling away from the field to touch the wall in 2:07.95 and snuck into the final in the eighth seed.

Virginia senior Alexis Wenger took the ninth spot.
