The Day 3 prelims session of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued from the McAuley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech with the 100 breaststroke.

NC State’s Sophie Hansson is the defending NCAA Champion in the event and has a lot of challengers this year. With so many swimmers with similar times all season, it was a fight to get into the final. Hansson did not get the top seed in the event after prelims, either.

Texas’ Anna Elendt went a 56.88 to beat Hansson head-to-head to take the top overall seed. Elendt continued to build speed as the race went on, pulling away from Hansson and the field. Hansson took the fourth seed overall heading into finals (57.71).

USC’s Pac-12 champion Kaitlyn Dobler took the second seeding 57.55 after winning her heat.  Virginia senior Alexis Wenger took the third spot in 57.67 ahead of Hansson (57.71).

The rest of the NCAA top eight included Tennessee sophomore Mona McSharry, who was fifth in 57.87, followed by Ohio State junior Hannah Bach (57.89) and a pair of Northwestern seniors, Tara Vovk (58.01) and Sophie Angus (58.19).

The final should be just as close as all eight proved they can make a move in a big race.
