The 2022 NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championship last night continued from the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, with the final individual event, platform diving.

After prelims, three divers were ahead of the field, but within three points of each other. It remained that close throughout the platform finals.

Purdue freshman Tyler Downs won the event with 447.20 points, just four points ahead of Miami senior Zach Cooper (443.05).

“I had not expectations going into my first NCAA meet. I wanted to go out and have fun,” Downs said.  “It has been great at Purdue.”

Downs, a Tokyo Olympian, said he will fly out to attend the Oscars after being invited by the Elton John Foundation.

Tennessee sophomore Bryden Hattie took third with 418.70.

Florida junior Leonardo Garcia was fourth (406.05), followed by Miami’s Maxwell Flory (398.00), Ohio State’s Jacob Fielding (364.55), Purdue’s Jordan Rzepka (338.85) and Lyle Yost (336.80).
