2022 Big Ten Men’s Championships: Indiana, Michigan Poised After Morning

Indiana and Michigan are poised to create space in Day 2 of the 2022 Big Ten Men’s Championships on Thursday. The Wolverines lead the way with seven A finalists in Thursday’s night session and 12 total swimmers. Six of the nine Hoosiers who made it back are A finalists.

Indiana leads the way after a pair of relays Wednesday night with Michigan, the reigning champion, third.

Jacob Newmark set the pace in prelims, the Wisconsin sophomore grabbing the top seed at 4:14.05. Charlie Clark of Ohio State followed in 4:15.39. The top seed entering the meet, Michigan’s Patrick Callan, coasted to fourth in 4:16.63.

Michigan led the way courtesy of Gal Groumi, who clocked in at 143.31. But Indiana stands to pounced with three A finalists. Luke Barr led the way in third at 1:43.80.

Wisconsin’s Caleb Aman is second din 1:43.46, .02 ahead of Alex Quach of Ohio State.

It took 20.01 to earn a second swim at Big Tens. Hunter Armstrong led the way in prelims with 19.02 seconds, a 1-2 teammate with Sem Andreis. Michigan slipped three into the A final, with Cameron Peel leading the way in fifth. Bruno Blaskovic of Indiana and Victor Baganha of Penn State were third and fourth, respectively.
