Men’s 200 Back
Texas freshman Carson Foster took care of business for his third win of the weekend with a 1:40.34 in the 200 backstroke as he improved on his season best of 1:40.39 from December. Foster already swept the IMs this weekend as he held off a hard charge from senior Austin Katz (1:40.83), who came home in 25.65 to Foster’s 26.09. The time is also a slight improvement for Katz who was a 1:40.89 earlier this month as Katz was the national champion in 2018 and was expected to compete for the title last season.
Texas’ Ethan Harder (1:41.89) and Peter Larson (1:41.90) competed in the B-Final as exhibition swimmers.

Men’s 100 Free
Daniel Krueger used his motor boat kick to pull away from the field in the 100 freestyle with a 41.33, which is a season best for the junior who was the top seed heading into last year’s NCAAs before the meet was cancelled. Krueger has been eager to prove himself on the national stage as he took down a pretty solid field tonight at the Big 12 swimming championships, touching ahead of teammates Drew Kibler (42.29) and Chris Staka (42.42). Those three paired with Alvin Jiang should make a very tough to beat 400 free relay come nationals in four weeks.

Texas senior Evie Pfeifer broke the conference record in the 1650 freestyle with a 15:48.65 as she is now ranked second nationally in this event three weeks out from NCAAs as she now sits third nationally behind Virginia’s Paige Madden and Tennessee’s Kristen Stege.
This is Pfeifer’s third win of this impressive weekend as she won the 500 free and 400 IM. Her best entering today was a 15:58 from the 2018 NCAAs as this was a 10-second drop which puts her in the running for the national title.
Kansas’ Kara Church was second at 16:41.12.

Freshman Anna Elendt just missed her season best in winning the 200 breast Big 12 title with a 2:06.34 as she has already been a 2:06.0 this season. Elendt was out in 1:01.0, showcasing her front end speed as she will play into the national title in both breaststroke distances as we inch closer to NCAAs in 18 days.
Kansas’ Kate Steward put herself within NCAA consideration with a 2:10.86 for second place. Last season it took a 2:10.12 to make the NCAA meet that ultimately never happened, but Steward is on the bubble to get to NCAAs.

Texas sophomore Caspar Corbeau put himself fifth nationally in the 200 breaststroke with a 1:52.52 to cruise in the 200 breast final, sitting behind Reece Whitley, Evgenii Somov, Daniel Roy and Caio Pumputis in the national rankings as that race could go any different direction come NCAAs in four weeks.
TCU’s Vitauts Silins finished in second at 1:54.54 to compliment his runner-up finish in the 100 breast yesterday as he was a half second off what it took to make the NCAA meet a year ago. Silins may have a better shot at making the meet in the 100 breast but he is on the bubble for NCAAs in both.
Texas sophomore Jake Foster finished in third at 1:55.13 ahead of junior Charlie Scheinfeld (1:56.02).

Texas freshman Olivia Bray improved on her season best in the 200 butterfly as she swam a 1:52.03 on Saturday night at the Big 12 swimming championships in Austin in holding off teammate Kelly Pash (1:52.69). Bray had the fastest time in the nation entering this week but was passed by Michigan’s Olivia Carter, but took the top spot right back with her swim tonight, setting up a dual between those two in three weeks.
Emma Sticklen was out well the first 100 and finished in third at 1:55.52.

Texas senior Alvin Jiang won his third Big 12 title of the weekend with a 1:41.60 in the 200 butterfly, using his strong underwater kicks to propel him to a win. Teammate Andrew Koustik (1:42.38) finished in second ahead of West Virginia’s David Dixon (1:42.75), who should both advance to the NCAA Championships.
Jiang has been a huge addition to this Texas team as he transferred from North Carolina after two seasons in Chapel Hill. He was a national title favorite last season in the 100 butterfly before the meet was cancelled and should be at the top of the podium in a number of relays and individual events.
