2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships Day Five Finals Live: Casas Breaks Lochte Meet Record, Brown Swims 45 100 Free
SEC Swimming and Diving Championships
Auburn, Alabama 2020
The final night of the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships had the finals of the 1650, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 400 free relay. Tennessee and Florida won the SEC team titles as the Gators won their eighth straight men’s team title and the Vols won their first women’s title in school history.
Florida’s Bobby Finke won the 1650 and completely smashed the records in that event as he won by over 30 seconds. It was the only event the Gators won on Saturday night.
The Tennessee women had a big showing from Erika Brown in the 100 free as she moved to second all-time in the event and won her third title of the weekend.
Texas A&M’s Shaine Casas broke a long-standing meet record in the 200 back that belonged to Ryan Lochte set in 2005 in the 200 back as Casas helped the Aggies finish second overall. A&M’s Benjamin Walker also won the 200 breaststroke.
Alabama was the top school of the night as the Tide collected wins from Kensey McMahon (1650), Rhyan White (200 back) and their men’s 400 free relay team. Their in-state rival Auburn won the women’s relay to close out the championships in their home pool.
LSU’s Brooks Curry also won the 100 freestyle for LSU’s first SEC title in men’s swimming since Evan Martinec won the 100 back in 2004.
Georgia’s Zoie Hartman also won the 200 breaststroke.

Men’s 1650 Free
The Florida distance swimmers have been on fire at the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Auburn, Alabama. Not long after an American record from Kieran Smith in the 500 free on Wednesday, Bobby Finke absolutely torched the 1650 free American record with a 14:12.08.
Finke started fast and finished fast. He was out under American record pace from the very first 50 and built and built on that lead over the pace. Not only did he smash the 14:18.25 American record set in December 2017, he completely tore apart the NCAA record of 14:22.41 set by Clark Smith in March 2017.

Women’s 200 Back
Alabama is off to a great start on the final night of the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in their rival’s home pool as Rhyan White followed up her impressive morning swim with a 1:48.15 in the 200 backstroke, not long after Kensey McMahon won the 1650 free. White was faster this morning when she was a 1:48.0 but held on to deny Kentucky’s Asia Seidt (1:48.86) a fourth straight SEC title in this event.
Seidt still had a good swim for second place as Kentucky had four total A-finalists in this event. Ali Galyer (1:49.92) finished in third while Caitlin Brooks (1:51.60) and Sophie Sorenson (1:52.90) placed fifth and seventh.
The Florida Gators passed Tennessee after the 200 back with Sherridon Dressel (1:50.93) placing fourth for the Gators and Tennessee’s Meghan Small (1:51.80) getting sixth.
Auburn’s Sonnele Oeztuerk (1:53.49) finished in eighth.
