2020 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships
Knoxville, Tennessee
The first day of the 2020 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships got underway tonight at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The events contested include 800y freestyle relay, 200y medley relay, women’s 3 meter diving, and men’s 1 meter diving.
On the men’s side, University of Incarnate Word created a new championship record and are leading, though Florida Atlantic University is close behind. On the women’s side, Florida Gulf Coast and Liberty University are in a race for the top spot.

Women’s 800 Free Relay
Winning the first event of the night’s proceedings was the team from Liberty University, in a time of 7:18.41. Liberty’s quartet of Eva Suggs, Hannah Baker, Emily Manly and Emma Hazel beat back a challenge from Florida Gulf Coast University who finished second in a time of 7:22.24. The team from University of the Incarnate Word took third place (7:23.87), while UNC Asheville finished fourth in a time of 7:28.32. Finishing in fifth place was the team from Gardner-Webb University (7:33.09), followed by Campbell University (7:34.01), University of North Florida (7:38.12) and Georgia Southern University (7:41.34).
Men’s 200 Medley Relay
Gardner-Webb’s team of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Tim Bennett and Zach Dingfield took home top honours, winning in a time of 1:27.74. The team from Old Dominion University finished second (1:28.73), followed by University of Incarnate Word in third (1:29.27). NJIT took fourth place (1:31.36), closely followed by Florida Atlantic University (1:31.85) and Howard University (1:32.01). Mount Saint Mary’s team rounded out the championship final in a time of 1:32.25.
Women’s 3 Meter Diving
Reese Wakefield of FGCU took home the title scoring 310 points, while Liberty teammates Lauren Chennault (294.80) and Olivia Robinson (275.30) nabbed second and third place respectively. Ana Lucia Garza of Incarnate Word finished fourth (267.15), followed by Delaney Nelson of FGCU (261.15), Valencia McDonald of Incarnate Word (244.75), Alyssa Schmidt of FGCU (243.40) and Isabeau Keene of FGCU (240.55).
Men’s 1 Meter Diving
Logan Downey diving for FAU sealed this victory with a score of 381.55. Incarnate Word teammates Tim Newton (335.40) and Dawson Martinez (283.15) finished second and third respectively. They were followed by Charlie Greene of FAU (258.15), Jason Checchin of Incarnate Word (256.90) and Michael Cannatelli of FAU (231.15). FAU and Incarnate Word each had three divers in the top 6.
Women’s 200 Medley Relay
Liberty University took home their second victory of the day, as their team of Payton Keiner, Mikayla Herich, Brittany Weiss and Colleen Donlin touched at 1:38.79. FGCU finished in second place with a time of 1:40.54, followed by Gardner-Webb in third place (1:43.25). Incarnate Word finished fourth (1:43.26), with Campbell University coming in fifth (1:44.22), and University of North Florida finishing sixth (1:45.26). Georgia Southern University (1:45.28) and Howard University (1:46.50) rounded out the championship final.
Men’s 800 Free Relay
University of Incarnate Word broke the CCSA Championship Record with their quartet of Alvaro Ibarra, Leonardo Sanchez, Norbert Aranyi and Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz touching in a time of 6:30.19. Florida Atlantic finished second (6:33.45), followed by Gardner Webb (6:34.40), and NJIT (6:46.42). Old Dominion University finished fifth (6:47.92), while Howard University finished sixth (6:53.82), and Mount Saint Mary’s (7:03.96) finished out the championship final.
The 2020 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships continues tomorrow with the 200 free relay, 500y free, 200y IM, 50y free and men’s 3-meter diving event.
