Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

The 2020 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships continue from Bloomington, Indiana on the campus of Indiana University with the heats of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 freestyle.
Michigan had the best morning four swimmers in the A-Final of the 500 free and 200 IM, and two more in the 50 free. Host Indiana, and the three-time defending champs, advanced five swimmers in the A-Finals but should be boosted by the heats of 1m diving.

500 Freestyle
What’s a Big Ten men’s swimming and diving championships without four Michigan guys in the 500 free A-Final? The Wolverines will have half the field in tonight’s A-Final led by the top three seeds in senior Felix Auböck (4:14.65), sophomore Patrick Callan (4:14.70) and junior Ricardo Vargas (4:14.70).
Aubock is looking for his fourth straight Big Ten title in this event and could chase his meet record of 4:09.29 he set in 2018. The Wolverines will also have William Roberts (4:19.97) in the A-Final as they will pack on the points in this event.
Penn State’s Michael Daly (4:18.24), Wisconsin’s Cameron Tysoe (4:18.67), Indiana’s Mikey Calvillo (4:19.90) and Minnesota’s Cameron Kelley (4:19.97) will also swim in the A-Final.

The Michigan Wolverines continued their insane morning on Thursday at Big Tens as they got four up in the 200 IM and will have half the A-Final. Jeremy Babinet (1:43.19) led the Wolverines qualifiers in second place as he will be joined by seniors Tommy Cope (1:43.47), Charlie Swanson (1:43.71) and Jacob Montague (1:44.12).
But Michigan is not the top seed as that distinction belongs to Ohio State’s Paul DeLakis (1:42.72). He will be joined in the final by fellow Buckeye Andrew Loy (1:44.12) who had a big swim out of the non-seeded heats.
Indiana will also have two in the final with Van Mathias (1:43.66) and Mohamed Samy (1:43.71).

Indiana’s Bruno Blaskovic set the pool record in the 50 free heats in his home facility as he was the only one to break 19 seconds in the heats at the Big Ten men’s swimming and diving championships. Blaskovic (18.96) will be joined in the final by fellow Hoosier in sophomore Jack Franzman (19.30) as the Hoosiers advanced five total swimmers to the A-Finals tonight.
Michigan’s Gus Borges (19.09) is the second seed as Michigan had a great morning, also advancing freshman River Wright (19.58) to the A-Final.
Penn State’s Gabriel Castano (19.15), Ohio State’s Semuede Andreis (19.28), Penn State’s William Roberson (19.50) and Purdue’s Nikola Acin (19.52) also advanced to the championship final.
