2019 World University Games Day 6 Prelims: Ky-Lee Perry, Olivia Carter Earn Top Seeds

The 2019 World University Games continued with day six of the competition from Naples, Italy.

The preliminary heats opened with the women’s 50 breast before moving to the men’s 50 free, women’s 200 fly, women’s 50 free and men’s 4×200 relay.

 

Women’s 50 Breast

Brazil’s Jhennifer Alves was the only swimmer in the field to break 31 seconds to take the top seed in the 50 breast, finishing in 30.75.

Russia’s Nika Godun took the second seed in 31.15, followed by South Africa’s Tatjana Schoenmaker (31.31).

Australia’s Chelsea Hodges took the fourth seed in 31.37, followed by American Jorie Caneta (31.43), Tatiana Chisca (31.43), Britain’s Sarah Vasey (31.45)and Canada’s Sophie Angus (31.47).

Men’s 50 Free

Great Britain’s David Cumberlidge took the top seed in the 50 free, touching the wall in 22.22 to hold off the rest of the field.

Japan’s Kosuke Matsui took the second seed in 22.30, followed by Hong Kong’s Ian Yentou Ho (22.34), Canada’s Cameron Kidd (22.36), American Zach Apple (22.45), Austria’s Heiko Gigler (22.53), Brazil’s Luis Gustavo Borges (22.55) and Russia’s Ivan Kuzmenko (22.55).

Women’s 200 Fly

American Olivia Carter was able to hold off the field and take the top seed in the 200 fly.

Carter finished in 2:11.00 to edge Britain’s Charlotte Atkinson (2:11.09).

Japan’s Sachi Mochida took the third seed in 2:11.55, followed by American Dakota Luther (2:11.63), Austria’s Claudia Hufnagl (2:11.70), Italy’s Ilaria Cusinato (2:12.31), Australia’s Alice Stuart (2:12.33) and Italy’s Alessia Polieri (2:13.10).

Women’s 50 Free

American sprinter Ky-Lee Perry nearly broke 25 seconds on her way to the top seed in the 50 free. Perry finished the race in 25.08.

Britain’s Emily Barclay took the second seed in 25.29, followed by Belarus’ Nastassia Karakouskaya (25.31).

Germany’s Jessica Felspar snagged the fourth seed in 25.32, followed by Screen Shot 2019-07-09 at 4.39.59 AM (25.37) of the Netherlands, Korea’s Soeun Jeong (25.45), American Grace Ariola (25.56), and China’s Ying Bao (25.60).
