The third morning of the 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals from Palo Alto, California will only feature four events with the 400 free and 100 fly taking place on Thursday at Stanford’s pool. Many of the future stars of the sport of swimming are in attendance this week with many of them waiting to be discovered by college coaches. This week at Stanford is the “greatest spectacle in recruiting.”
Magnolia’s Kaitlynn Sims is the top seed in the 400 free as she will be a freshman at the University of Michigan in a few short weeks. She is seeded ahead of Miranda Heckman and Ellie Marquardt who will be headed to Texas and Princeton this fall.
Jack Walker of Swim MAC Carolina is the top seed in the men’s 400 free as he is headed to the University of Virginia in a few short weeks. Walker will have his hands full with 1500 champion James Plage from Connecticut who is seeded second behind Walker. Jacob McDonald from the Mason Manta Rays is seeded third.
Magnolia’s Lillie Nordmann is seeded first in the 100 fly but she scratched out of the 200 fly on the first night presumably to regroup after Nationals and get ready for the Junior Worlds at the end of the month. That leaves the door open for Rachel Klinker, who will be a freshman across the bay at Cal this fall. Dynamo’s Tristen Ulett is seeded behind her.
Ethan Hu is one of the few unsigned names on the heat sheets as he is the top seed in the 100 fly ahead of Aiden Hayes and Arsenio Bustos.
