The 2019 Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships splashed into action in Stanford, California today on the heels of a fiery 2019 FINA World Championships.
Day one of competition saw athletes competing in the men’s and women’s 200 fly, 100 free, women’s 800 free, men’s 1500 free, and the men’s 400 free relay.
Throughout the entirety of the session, Swimming World photographer Connor Trimble was on deck capturing the action and excitement, while Swimming World’s Dan D’Addona and Courtney Mykkanen reported on the action from Stanford, California.

Fresh off a wildly successful World Championships, teenager Regan Smith picked up the National Championship title in the women’s 200 fly, while fellow teen Luca Urlando charged to victory on the men’s side.
2016 Olympians Abbey Weitzeil and Ryan Held claimed titles in the women’s and men’s 100 free races, with Held lowering his own U.S. Open record from prelims.
The final individual races of the night were the women’s 800 free and the men’s 1500 free. Ally McHugh took home the title for the women, while Bobby Finke swam well ahead of the men’s competition in the 1500 free. He finished nearly five seconds ahead of the pack.
