By Kate Santilena, Swimming World College Intern.
We are starting off this years 2019 Mountain West Conference Championship with Wednesday night relays at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center located in chilly Minneapolis. Tonight’s events consisted of the women’s 200 medley relay, the women’s 800 free relay and the women’s 1-meter diving. Day 1 Results.
Women’s 200 Medley Relay
For our first night of competition, the women’s 200 medley relay became an exciting race with Boise State University’s (BSU) senior Ally Kleinsorgen leading the heat after the backstroke leg of the relay with a split of 24.29. However, San Diego State University’s (SDSU) sophomore Elliyana Ferrin had a great breaststroke leg of the race splitting a 27.03 to bring the Aztecs to the lead and from there they held that lead.
The SDSU Aztecs kept their top spot from the Boise State Broncos finishing with a time of 1.36.76. cutting 2.63 seconds from their seed time. Boise State came in second with a time of 1.37.22 and the Colorado State University (CSU) Rams finished with a bronze with a time of 1.39.70. Both relay teams also dropped time from their seed entry.
