2019 Canadian Swimming Trials Prelims Day 3: Masse and Elliot Among Top Seeds

(Toronto, CAN)- Day three of the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials are off with prelims at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre completed. Masse, who won the 100 back Wednesday, is the first seed going into tonight 200 finals. Alexander Elliot posted first seed times in both the Para 100 fly and the Para 400 free going into tonight’s finals.

Women’s Para 50 Fly

Sabrina Duchesne of UL opened today’s prelims session winning with a time of 40.29. In second was teammate Tess Routliffe in 40.42. Claiming third was NG’s Camille Berube in a time of 40.58. Fourth was Myria Soliman (49.99), fifth Clemence Pare (1:10.57), and sixth was Corriveau (1:21.62).

Claiming the lone title was Etienne Boutin-Cote of CNQ in the time of 1:07.79.

Women’s Para 100 Fly

Taking first in the time of 1:11.27 was Samantha Ryan of NN, with Angela Marinaof of BRANT in second at 1:15.02 and Daniel Dorris from CNBO third in 1:19.45. Rounding out the stop eight were Justine Morrier (1:15.58), Morgan Bird (1:24.61), Ariann Hunsicker (1:24.30), seventh Miori Henault (1:29.59), and eighth Megan Sherwin (1:43.14).

Winning, and just short of breaking the one minute barrier, was Alexandar Ellitot of UL in exactly 1:00.00. In second was Nicholas Bennet of RAC in 1:03.94 and third was Philip Vanchon of MEGO in 1:07.25. Also touching in the top were Nicolas Turbide (1:03.28) fourth, Nic Plamondon (1:14.10) fifth, Felix Cowan (1:16.44) sixth, Matthew Cabraja (1:19.95) seventh, and Aidan Elliot (1:15.52) eighth.

Wednesday’s 100 back champion, Kylie Masse of TSC, touched first in the 200 back prelims with a time of 2:09.36. Close behind was Madison Broad of CYPS in 2:09.82, with Taylor Ruck in the running for the title at 2:10.48 for third. Fourth was Jade Hannah (2:11.48), fifth Mabel Zavaros (2:11.82), sixth Mackenzie Glover (2:12.29), seventh Olivia Ellard (2:!3.16), and eighth Ekaterina Avramova (2:14.07).

Touching first, just breaking the two minute barrier, was Mark Thormeyer of UBCSC in 1:59.99. It was a close race for second with William Marois of CHENA touching in 2:00.59 and Robert Hill right behind in 2:00.66. Fourth would go to Javier Acevedo (2:00.74), fifth Cole Pratt (2:00.92), sixth Josh Zakala (2:01.86), seventh Anders Klein (2:02.69), and eighth Sebastian Somerset (2:02.78).

Swedish NCAA champion Louise Hannson of UNAT touched first in the time of 57.35, less than one second off the Canadian record. Rebecca Smith of SCAR hit second in 58.50, with Maggie MacNeil of LAC close behind in 58.66. Rounding out the top eight were Haley Black (59.07) fourth, Penelope Oleksiak (59.31) fifth, Sarah Watson (59.56) sixth, Hanna Henderson (59.58) seventh, and Danielle Hanus (59.69) eighth.

Hitting first, just missing the Canadian record time by .05, was Luis Martinez of GUA in 51.87. Batteling for second, Zheng Wen Quah of SGP would touch in 52.53 with Dylan Carter of UNAT third in 52.92. Fourth was Joshua Liendo (53.11), fifth Josiah Binnema (53.34), sixth William Pisani (53.51), seventh Alex Perreault (53.90), and eighth Mack Darragh (54.22).

Hitting first respectively was Alyson Ackman of PCSC in 4:11.08. Kennedy Gross of GGST went 4:14.50 to out touch Mackenzie Padington of UNVAR’s 4:14.54. In fourth was Danica Ludlow (4:15.21), fifth Emma O’Croinin (4:15.49), sixth Gabby DeLoof (4:19.00), seventh Emily Overholt (4:19.14), and eighth Katrina Bellio (4:19.71).

Victor Johansson of UNAT touched the wall first in the time of 3:50.63. In second was Colin Gilbert of KCS in 3:52.97 and behind him was Jeremy Bagshaw of ISC in 3:53.85. Fourth was Andrea D’Arrigo (3:54.85), fifth Michael McGillivray (3:55.09), sixth Peter Brothers (3:56.15), seventh Nathan Beaudin-Bolduc (3:56.15), eighth Alexander Pratt (3:56.81).

Winning from UL with a time of 4:54.84 was Aureli Rivard, and in second was Sabrina Duchesne also of UL who came in first in the 50 fly prelims earlier, in a time of 5:39.96. Third was Ariann Hunsicker of SKSC in the time of 5:14.00. Fourth was Morgan Bird (5:27.50), fifth Gabby Baird (5:32.53), sixth Krystal Shaw (6:17.77), seventh Michel Tovizi (7:00.53), and eighth Myria Soliman (7:06.59).

Alexander Elliot of UL, after winning the 100 fly this morning, took first to end out the prelims session in a time of 4:15.86. In second was Zach Zona of NHAC in 4:45.25, and third went to Phillip Vachon of MEGO in 4:43.88. Rounding out the top eight were Nic Plamondon (4:48.83) fourth, Matthew Cabraja (5:06.94) fifth, Hicham Boufekane (5:18.61) sixth, Fleix Cowan (5:10.64) seventh, and Caleb Arndt (5:00.61) eighth.
