2019 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships: Lilly King Swims Fastest 50 Breast Split Ever, Michigan Breaks Meet Record
The first session of the 2019 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships featured the 200 medley and 800 free relays. Indiana won the first relay while Michigan won the second with the latter taking the meet record in the process.
Indiana senior Lilly King split the fastest ever 50 breaststroke in the medley relay with a 25.36 as the Hoosiers won the medley relay with a 1:34.71.
Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey had a stellar 1:40.75 split in the 800 free relay as the Wolverines won with a 6:54.58.
Michigan is looking for its fourth straight team title while Indiana is looking to spoil the party. Michigan is on top of the team standings ahead of the Hoosiers. There is a three-way tie for third between Ohio State, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

200 Medley Relay
Indiana got its home Big Tens started with a 1:34.71 in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday night in Bloomington, Indiana. Morgan Scott (24.21), Lilly King (25.36), Christie Jensen (23.02) and Shelby Koontz (22.12) won for the Hoosiers ahead of Michigan (1:34.98) and Ohio State (1:35.85).
King’s breaststroke split is possibly the fastest split of all-time as she was a 25.38 at NCAAs a year ago. Indiana just missed the meet record they set a year ago at 1:34.16.
The fastest splits outside of Indiana came from Northwestern’s Calypso Sheridan (24.05), Michigan’s Miranda Tucker (26.31), Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil (22.39) and Ohio State’s Freya Rayner (21.34).
Wisconsin (1:35.87), Minnesota (1:36.22), Northwestern (1:36.93), Purdue (1:37.17) and Penn State (1:39.20) finished in the top eight.

800 Free Relay
Michigan got off to a slow start in the 800 free relay but ended up breaking the meet record with a 6:54.58 on Wednesday night in Bloomington, Indiana. The quartet of Rose Bi (1:45.28), Rebecca Postoll (1:46.16), Siobhan Haughey (1:40.75) and Catie DeLoof (1:42.39) broke the meet record that stood at 6:55.34 from 2017.
Michigan was trailing Minnesota through 2 legs but the Golden Gophers ended up in second at 7:00.10 as they just held off Wisconsin (7:00.39) for the runner-up.
The quickest splits outside of Michigan came from Wisconsin’s Beata Nelson (1:42.03), Minnesota’s Chantal Nack (1:43.16), Minnesota’s Mackenzie Padington (1:44.25) and Wisconsin’s Lillie Hosack (1:44.29).
Ohio State (7:02.93), Indiana (7:07.41), Purdue (7:08.47), Iowa (7:10.10) and Rutgers (7:14.87) also placed in the top eight.
