2018 Australian Pan Pacific Trials Day 4 Finals: McKeon, Titmus Win, Move Up World Rankings
The 2018 Hancock Prospecting Pan Pacific Championship Trials continued Tuesday at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre in Adelaide, with Australia’s best swimmers fighting for a spot on their country’s Pan Pacific Games roster.
Ariarne Titmus, Emma McKeon and Grant Irvine all earned top seeds during Tuesday’s preliminary session and followed that up with victories.
Titmus and McKeon cruised to the third-best performance in the world this year in their events.

Teen phenom Ariarne Titmus dropped eight seconds from her prelims time to dominate the women’s 400 free.
She finished in 4:01.73 to break the pool record in the event. It is the third fastest time in the event in the world this year behind Katie Ledecky (3:57.94) and her own time of 4:00.93.
Kiah Melverton finished second in 4:06.25, which also beat the previous pool record. Mikka Sheridan finished third in 4:09.36.

Eli Winnington cruised to victory in the 400 free, breaking the pool record in 3:45.98. It was the sixth-fastest time in the world this year, beating two compatriots who are in the top five.
Jack McLoughlin took second in 3:47.74, followed by Mack Horton (3:52.74). Horton has the fastest time this year in the world at 3:43.76. McLoughlin is third in the world this year at 3:45.21.

Another pool record fell when Emma McKeon won the 100 butterfly in 56.61. It was more than a half second faster than second-place An Sehyeon of Korea, who finished in 57.91.
McKeon moved into the third-fastest time in the world this year behind Rikako Ikee (56.23) and Sarah Sjostrom (56.29)
Gemma Cooney took third in 59.15, followed by Michaela Ryan (59.84).

Grant Irvine and David Morgan were locked in a tight battle in the 100 butterfly. Irvine held off Morgan to win the event in 51.59, the eighth-fastest time in the world this year. Morgan was second in 51.93.
Theodoros Benehoutsos was third in 53.05, followed by Edward Marks (53.50).

Mitch Larkin continued his strong meet by cruising to victory in the 200 IM. Larking finished in 1:58.42. The time didn’t crack the top 10 in the world this year, but was good enough to win by more than a half second.
