Women’s 200 IM
Canada’s Mary-Sophie Harvey took the top seed in the first event of the morning, finishing in 2:14.65, just faster than Alex Walsh (2:14.87) of the United States. Walsh’s teammate Margaret Aroesty will join her in the A final with a 2:15.68. Sarah Darcel of Canada qualified fourth with a 2:16.11.
Japanese teammates Miku Kojima and Rio Shirai posted times of 2:16.51 and 2:18.70.
Australia’s Francesca Fitzhenry (2:20.31) and Mexico’s Brenda Diaz Martinex (2:20.68) complete tonight’s Championships final.
With the rules only allowing two swimmers from each country into the top heat, Canada’s Kayla Sanchez (2:16.74) and Brooke Forde of the USA (2:16.80) will be the top seeds in the consolation final.
Men’s 200 IM
Louis Townsend of Australia stopped the clock in 2:03.25 for the top seed time of the morning. Japan’s Tomoya Takeuchi followed in 2:07.76. Charlie Swanson of the United States touched in 2:04.27 for the third spot. His teammate Brennan Pastorek was fifth with a 2:04.73. Canada’s Josh Zakala finished between the Americans in 2:04.69.
Japan’s Juran Mizohata (2:05.11), Australia’s David Schlicht (2:05.58), and Mexico’s Alberto Gomez Neria (2:05.65) complete tonight’s A final.
In accordance with the two per country rule, the USA’s Sean Grieshop (2:05.24) will lead the way in the B final.
Women’s 50 Freestyle
Anya Marie Goeders of the United States edged New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’amausili for the top seed as the two finished in 25.24 and 25.26. The USA’s Marta Ciesla (25.45) touched third. The fourth spot went to Rebecca Smith of Canada in 25.51. Only .05 behind was Australia’s Elli Mackay in 25.56
Japan’s Sayuki Ouchi (25.66) and Australia’s Gemma Cooney (25.94) also finished under 26. China’s Yuting Tang (26.10) will round out tonight’s A final.
American teammates Isabel Ivey (25.52) and Casey Fanz (25.55) lead the way in the B final.
Men’s 50 Freestyle
Australians and Americans sprinted to the top this morning. Jack Cartwright (22.47) and Vincent Dai (22.82) of Australia qualified first and third. Ryan Hoffer (22.73) and Jack Franzman (22.85) of the USA will be second and fourth.
Mehdi Ayoubi of Canada touched in 23.29 this morning. Mexico’s Guillermo Cruz Zuniga (23.34), Canada’s Tai Long Singh (23.51), and Singapore’s Jonathan Tan (23.63) also qualified for the top heat.
Drew Kibler (23.12) and Daniel Krueger (23.16) of the USA and Australia’s Jordan Brunt (23.23)were relegated to the B final by the two per country rule.
Women’s 200 Breaststroke
American teammates led the way this morning. Zoe Bartel stopped the clock in 2:26.70, just nine tenths shy of the 2012 meet record of 1:25.78. Allie Rabb posted a 2:27.76.
Canada’s Kelsey Wog (2:28.23) and Japanese teammates Shiori Asaba (2:29.07) and Sae Saito (2:29.83) also finished under 2:30.
Australia’s Sarah Beale (2:33.71), Canada’s Sarah Darcel (2:34.74), and the Bahama’s Margaret Higgs (2:36.20) also claimed second swims in the top heat.
Men’s 200 Breaststroke
Matthew Wilson of Australia recorded a 2:12.70 in prelims this morning, just faster than Daniel Roy of the USA in 2:13.07.
Japan’s Ippei Miyamoto was third with a 2:13.48 and the fourth seed went to American Jacob Montague in 2:14.62. Daichi Inagaki of Japan finished fifth with a 2:14.90.
Australia’s Daniel Cave (2:15.35), Canada’s Ryan Telford (2:16.49), and New Zealand’s Eliot Lundon-Moore (2:17.84) complete the top eight.
Yu Hanaguruma of Japan will lead the B final after posting a 2:14.92 this morning.
Women’s 1500 Freestyle
The top eight will race tonight.
Men’s 800 Freestyle
The top eight will race tonight.
