Women’s 800 free
Brittany MacLean, who has been on fire this week with two Canadian records already, picked up another Olympic spot by dominating the 800 free. MacLean already won the 200 and 400 free with Canadian records earlier this week.
MacLean turned in a sizzling time of 8:21.40, a second and change off her Canadian record of 8:20.02, but good enough to win the finale and make the Olympics. That swim put her third in the world behind Katie Ledecky (8:06.68) and Jessica Ashwood (8:19.59).
Olivia Anderson finished second overall in 8:38.34, well off the FINA A cut of 8:33.97 to make the Olympic roster.
Tabitha Baumann (8:40.67), Sophia Saroukian (8:46.02), Tessa Cieplucha (8:50.88), Danica Ludlow (8:50.97), Barbara Jardin (8:56.05), Jersey Bishop (8:56.39), Claire Lockridge (9:02.28) and Kaitlin Gervais (9:04.69) also competed in the finale.
