2015 NCAA Division III Championships: Emory Women, Kenyon Men Solidify Leads
The first day of the NCAA Division III Championships featured some swift swims and a handful of NCAA D3 records falling. Day two witnessed the Emory women and Kenyon men take complete control of their team races.
Emory leads the women’s title race after day one with 135.5 points. Denison (124), Kenyon (95), Williams (94) were second through fourth.
During day two prelims, Emory grabbed 10 A final swims along with two B finals swims to likely stretch their lead this evening. Denison was second with four A and four B finalists.
The Kenyon men finished day one with a 21-point lead with 109 points. Emory stood second with 88 points, while Williams (66), Denison (60) and CMS (54) made up the rest of the top five.
Kenyon definitely had a strong day two prelims with nine A finalists and a B finalist.
Denison (4/2) and Williams (2/3) also had decent days, but will be looking for a Kenyon DQ or two for help.

Williams’ Megan Pierce, the defending champion in the event, lit up prelims with the top time in 4:19.87. That’s faster than the 4:19.94 she used to win just a year ago.
Pierce has some time to drop to catch up to the NCAA D3 record of 4:13.14 set by William’s Caroline Wilson back in 2012.
Emory’s Ming-Fen Ong qualified second this morning with a time of 4:21.49, while Denison’s Michelle Howell snared the third seed in 4:21.99.

Mary Washington’s Hugh Anderson (3:48.50) and Kenyon’s Harrison Curley (3:49.25) each cleared the NCAA D3 record in the event.
Anderson previously set the mark with a 3:49.25 to win the title last year, and will have his hands full with Curley tonight.
Kenyon’s Arthur Conover qualified third with a 3:50.43, while Ian Reardon (3:50.89) and Trevor Manz (3:52.78) also made the A final for Kenyon.

But, shockingly, she was disqualified from the event without a reason being given in the official results.
Williams’ Emma Waddell took over as the top seed with a 53.96, while Amherst’s Sarah Conklin qualified second in 54.62. Denison’s Carolyn Kane snared the third seed in 54.83.

That effort undercut Wyatt Ubellacker of MIT’s 2013 record of 47.34, and is well under the 47.91 Whitman’s Karl Mering used to win this title last year.
DePauw’s Blake Lehmann tied Mering for the second seed today with matching 48.00s.

Bogdanovski will be looking to drop some major time and potentially challenge Kendra Stern’s 2011 NCAA D3 record of 1:44.82.

Johns Hopkins’ Evan Holder (1:37.42), Amherst’s Connor Sholtis (1:37.44) and Kenyon’s Austin Caldwell (1:37.46) set up a likely remarkable finale.
Caldwell won the title last year with a 1:37.16, and the top trio all look capable of taking out one of the longest standing records in the NCAA D3 books, Dennis Mulvilhill’s 1988 record of 1:36.63 for Kenyon.
