2012 Champion Cameron van der Burgh, Wife Nefeli Valakelis, Announce The Birth Of Baby Boy
Cameron van der Burgh, 2012 100m breaststroke champion, and wife Nefeli Valakelis have announced the birth of their first child, a boy called Harry David.
Harry David van der Burgh was born on Friday 4 September with the South African announcing the news on social media, saying:
“Harry David van der Burgh you were only waiting for this moment to arrive. 04/09/2020, 15:42 ❤️ We love you more than words can describe @nef_val and baby doing well!”
The post was accompanied by the sheet music for the Beatles song ‘Blackbird’.
Messages of congratulation poured in from fellow swimmers across the world including from Adam Peaty, who said: “Congratulations to the both of you, all the blessings ??????2
Peaty won the Olympic title at Rio 2016 ahead of Van der Burgh and is himself awaiting the imminent arrival of a son with partner Eiri Munro.
Cody Miller, third in Rio, and wife Ali are also expecting a child in November.
Van der Burgh’s fellow South African and 2012 champion Chad Le Clos said: “Awesome guys ❤️ congrats much love ❤️”
Sarah Sjostrom and James Guy were also among the well-wishers.
