COLORADO SPRINGS, March 14. AT least 16 Olympians will highlight the field at the 2002 Phillips 66
Spring National Swimming Championships in Minneapolis, March 19-23.
Ed Moses (Burke, Va.) arrives fresh off five world record performances in the closing weeks of the FINA World Cup series that netted him the top prize of $50,000 as well as several record bonuses. He'll be joined by Curl-Burke teammate Tom Dolan (Arlington, Va.)who, after briefly toying with retirement,
returned to training to try to become the first man in history to win the 400m individual medley — arguably the toughest event in the sport — at three Olympic Games.
Fellow Olympic champion Tom Malchow (St. Paul, Minn.) is looking forward to his homecoming as he continues to work towards regaining his world mark in the 200m butterfly that was first broken a year ago at the
nationals.
Olympians Megan Quann (Puyallup, Wash.), Amanda Beard (Irvine, Calif.) and Gabrielle Rose (Irvine, Calif.) as well as World champion Haley Cope (Chico, Calif.) will compete on the women's side.
