14-Year-Old Lilla Bognar Swims 2:10 200 Backstroke at NCSA Summer Championships
During the first day of the NCSA Summer Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, 14-year-old Lilla Bognar of Team Greenville (S.C.) posted the most impressive performance with a 2:10.62 in the women’s 200 backstroke. Bognar actually dropped eight seconds in the event, since she arrived in Huntsville with a seed time of 2:18.66 and then swam a 2:14.72 for the third seed out of prelims before dropping the hammer again at night. She finished about a second and a half ahead of NOVA’s Zoe Dixon (2:12.06).
Interestingly, Bognar’s time ranks behind the 2:09.57 that Teagan O’Dell swam at the Speedo Junior Championships last week in Irvine, while the NAG record in the event belongs to 2012 Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin in 2:09.16.
Zionsville’s Will Modglin was the winner in the men’s 200 back in 2:02.98. Sydney Smith beat out Campbell Chase by two tenths to win the women’s 100 free, 56.88 to 57.08, and the men’s 100 free went to Kledi Kadiu in 51.27, barely over Noah Dyer in 51.41.
Anna Auld earned a 10-second win the women’s 1500 free with her time of 16:46.40, and the men’s 800 free saw Alec Enyeart capture first place in 8:02.16.
The 50 butterfly winners were Letitia Sim (27.50) and Aleksa Radenovic (25.05), and Sim joined with younger sister Levenia, Cequiya York and Megan Cororan to win the women’s 200 medley relay in 1:55.40. Zionsville’s Modglin, John Donovan, Charles Krone and William Raches took first in the men’s 200 medley relay in 1:43.47.
