11 Americans Among Aquatics Technical Officials at Paris Olympics

Eleven Americans are among the aquatics technical officials and specialized committee members at the Paris 2024 Olympics for aquatics.

Five Americans are on technical and specialized committees for the Games, while six are serving as technical officials. The delegation includes athlete ambassadors Anthony Ervin, the four-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer and winner of the 50 free in 2000 and 2016, and artistic swimmer Bill May.

“It is a tribute to the five organizational members of United States Aquatic Sports that so many talented and dedicated individuals will support aquatic competition in Paris,” Dale Neuburger, the treasurer of World Aquatics and a technical delegate for swimming, said in a press release. “I extend my congratulations to each of our American representatives, as they demonstrate the highest standards of competence and integrity.”

Americans are on the technical committee for open water, water polo, artistic swimming, swimming and sports medicine, led by open water technical committee chairman Sid Cassidy. At Paris La Defense Arena, Kathleen Scandary will serve as a swimming official and Lisa Vetterlein as a starter. Jennifer McCall and Darren Spiritosanto are water polo referees. Cheryl Russell is an artistic swimming judge, and Jeff Stabile is a diving judge.

“In addition to our outstanding aquatic athletes who will be competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the US will be well represented by officials and committee members,” USAS president Patty Miller said. “These people are accomplished experts in the aquatic disciplines. They make aquatic sports better — working for fairness, athlete safety, and sport excellence. We are proud that their contributions are recognized with the honor of serving at the Olympic Games.”

“I am deeply honored to serve as a World Aquatics Ambassador for the Paris Olympic Games,” Ervin said. “This role represents not only a personal privilege but also a testament to the strength and unity of the aquatic sports community in the United States, and throughout the world. I look forward to celebrating the incredible talent and dedication of our athletes, coaches, and officials as each strives to uphold the highest standards of excellence and integrity in aquatic sports.”
