As the Rio Games continue to draw billions of viewers toward television screens, it’s no surprise that some of the best moments are being caught on camera. While everyone loves the classic gold medal grin, the quirky and unexpected photos can be just as fantastic. Here are 10 photos to get you started in your admiration of the abnormal:

1. Is that the diving pool?

The verdant green water drew looks of concern and speculation from more than just fans. Rio officials originally assumed dye in the mats had leaked into the water leading to the overnight color change. It was later confirmed that the green was actually caused by a massive algae bloom and poor chemical maintenance.

2. Hosszu laps up some chlorine.

Everyone wants to see a close up of Katinka Hosszu’s tongue, especially after she annihilates the field. This Iron Lady is redesigning the head shot industry. The combination of her long red tongue dipping in the pool, her sideways glance, and red goggle marks truly embody her post race euphoria.

3. Baby Boomer not only has custom USA earmuffs, but also matching shoes.

In a rare moment of celebration, Boomer’s custom earmuffs were removed but he kept on his USA shoes. The Michael Phelps fan club is exhibiting some amazing product placement. Every person in this section displayed a MP product and/or a brand that sponsors Phelps. Who knows, maybe the MP brand will take on the baby apparel market?

4. The photographers needed a picture.

There were so many photographers that the press decided to take a pictures of them instead. Apparently the Italians are no longer the focal point, at least not in this photo.

5. We’re not allowed to sit on the lane line?

After 1500 meters, it’s only natural to straddle the lane line while receiving a hug from behind…apparently the Italians have found a loophole in the lifeguards’ “off the lane line” rule.

6. Let me help you drain the pool.

Unfortunately, this was an unsuccessful attempt to rid the competition pool of water, but Mack Horton truly put up a commendable effort.

7. Where are my teeth?

While cries of victory are expected, this face takes emotional expression to a whole new level. Denmark’s Prenille Bloom couldn’t have been more stunned by her victory in the 50 free.

8. The ultimate goal is winning because then I can sit on the lane line and show you my muscles.

Thirty-five-year-old Olympic champion Anthony Ervin looks like a bodybuilder trapped in a swimmer’s body– oh wait, that’s normal. And his sleeves have never looked better.

9. Are they missing something?

The medal procession includes several ladies missing fundamental undergarments and a man who has forgotten two of the medal holders. Whoops.

10. Is cupping worth the marks?

Aside from the unpleasant brown spots now adorning his body, Phelps finished with a bang– adding five more Olympic golds to his name. Could he have done it without the application of copious amounts of suction cups?
