Swim Poll of the Week: Will Cesar Cielo’s world records in the 50 and 100 freestyles survive at Worlds?
This is the Swim Poll of the Week for Thursday, May 26, 2022, sponsored by Strechcordz Swim Training Products. In our last poll, we wanted to know: Will Cesar Cielo’s world records in the 50 and 100 freestyles survive at Worlds?
Cesar Cielo has held his freestyle world records since 2009. He set the 100 freestyle world record at the 13th FINA World Championships in 2009. Cielo stopped the clock at 46.91 out touching runner-up Alain Bernard. Five months later at Brazilian National Championships Cielo closed out 2009 with another freestyle world record. He claimed the 50 freestyle world record in 20.91.
The current top three spots for the 50 freestyle are currently held by Caeleb Dressel (21.29), Michael Andrew (21.45), and Jakub Piechowski (21.55). Dressel (47.79) also holds the top spot in the world in the 100 freestyle, followed by Alessandro Miressi (47.88) and Lewis Edward Burras (47.88). Cielo’s records have held up for 13 years but Dressel is never one to count out. A surprise swimmer could also come out of the fold and shock us all. Either way, these will be two highly anticipated races going into Worlds later next month.
