Richmond Futures, Night Two: Empire Swimming Leads

The second night of competition at Richmond Futures Championships brought tight titles to swimmers not previously mentioned, Empire Swimming grasped the lead in the overall team scores.

Women’s 200 LCM Free

First-place finisher and rising sophomore at College of William and Mary, Megan Bull, completed the 200 LCM free in 2:03.14. This time was over one second faster than her prelims swim and the rest of her competitors. Touching second was Sophia Kudryashova with a time of 2:04.17. Kudryashova gave her verbal commitment to UNC Tarheels in May of 2018. Rounding-out third was Morgan Miller. The Virginia Tech class of 2023 commit clocked in at 2:04.24.

Men’s 200 LCM Free

The men’s 200 free was a tight race. Walker Wilson from Lehigh University won the 200 LCM freestyle with a time of 1:53.49. SOLO Aquatics swimmer, Andrew Benson finished shortly thereafter, touching in 1:53.73. Alexander (Lexo) Walker was narrowly beat by Benson, finishing just one-tenth of a second behind him (1:53.83).

Women’s 100 LCM Breast

Clarissa Sabin of Berkely Aquatic Club in New Jersey emerged victorious in another tight race. Her 1:12.12 was a little over a tenth of a second faster than that of Hannah Bach (1:12.44). The Ohio State class of 2023 commit out-touched her competitor by a mere 0.30 seconds. Alexandra McDaid, the rising LSU freshman from the Richmond Futures psych sheet preview came in third with a time of 1:12.74.

Men’s 100 LCM Breast

First: Christopher Bondarowicz FSPY-NJ 19 1:03.95 (0.15 drop from this morning) The Richmond Futures men’s 100 breaststroke title went to Christopher Bondarowicz of the U.S. Naval Academy and Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA. His time (1:03.95) was almost a second faster than that of Benjamin Brooks from EMU, who claimed second in 1:04.99. Noah Houskeeper earned third place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.29.

Women’s 100 LCM Fly

“Youngster” Joy Jiang did end up finishing first in the 100 fly after clocking in at 1:01.80. Hitting the wall soon after was Joanie Cash (1:01.94). Jiang and Cash were the only women under 1:02 in this event. Miller earned her second third-place finish of the night with a time of 1:02.31.

Men’s 100 LCM Fly

James Huang of Cornell University finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 54.96. Cason Wilburn touched second with a time of 55.23. Brennan Hammond followed close behind, hitting the wall third in 55.78.

Women’s 400 LCM IM

UNH Wildcat, Corrine Carbone dropped 5.47 seconds off of her prelims time to win the 400 individual medley (4:56.31). Two seconds later (4:58.78), Eliza Brown earned silver, and nearly three seconds after her, Katherine Lair touched to earn bronze (5:01.05).

Men’s 400 LCM IM

The 2018 Richmond Futures 400 individual medley title went to Liam Bogart, rising freshman at Yale University, for finishing in 4:32.07.  Chris Balbo from Somerset Valley YMCA came in second (4:32.64) after a two second drop from his morning swim (4:34.64). Balbo’s teammate, John Stauffer finished third in 4:33.56.

Women’s 400 LCM Free Relay

The A-relay team from Empire Swimming claimed first place with a time of 3:56.15. Second-place went to the A-relay from Asphalth Green Unified Aquatics after they swam their race in 3:56.40. The third team to hit the wall was that of Phoenix Swimming Together, they swam a 3:56.89 400 free relay. They shaved 2.27 seconds off of their seed time.

Men’s 400 LCM Free Relay

Peddie Aquatic Association’s A-relay took the men’s 400 free relay title in 3:34.06. They were quickly joined by second-place finishers from Empire Swimming (3:34.49). The A-relay representing the 757 Swim came in third with a time of 3:35.46.

Combined Team Scores After Night 2:

1. Empire Swimming, 217
2. Dayton Raiders, 210
3. Tide Swimming, 136

Prelims for day three of competition will begin at 9:00 AM, EST, August 4th.

You forgot to include the final two heats of the 400 free relay that were swum at finals. The results you reported are from the afternoon heats.
