26 Questions Swimmers Have During The 1500

The dreaded mile. Across the 15 laps, swimmers are left alone with their thoughts.

Alright, good start, how do I keep this momentum going?
First lap down, how hard can the next 14 be?
Is everyone else sprinting?
Do they realize we have 1200 more meters to go?
Should I have eaten something before this?
Why didn’t I eat that protein bar in my bag?
If I die of hunger will they still make me finish this race?
What’s 11 times 50? How long have I been in this pool?
Am I halfway done?
Am I in first? Am I in last? Where is everyone?
Is my counter paying attention while I’m away?
Should I listen to a song in my head?
Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, Cotton-Eyed Joe?
Why did I just do that to myself?
Is that person telling me or someone else to kick?
Should I kick?
Can I kick?
Will everything hurt this much when I get out of the pool?
What is everyone else on my team doing right now?
Am I supposed to pick up my pace at 200 meters?
Do I look like I’m going as slow as I feel like I am?
Where is everyone else?
If these next two flip turns are perfect, will coach forget about the 30 bad ones?
Will this last 50-meter sprint kill me?
How hard do I actually have to touch this wall?
Can I take a nap now?
