April 2, 2013: On today's edition of The Morning Swim Show, we bring you an interview from the men’s NCAA championships with California’s Tom Shields. Shields, who wrapped up his collegiate career with victories in both butterfly events, talked with Jeff Commings about his performance in the 200 fly and how he trained to feel the pace he needed to reach the American record. He also looked back on taking the fall semester to compete internationally. Being off-campus meant Shields was not the team’s go-to leader for most of the season and he gives high praise to the teammate who stepped up in his place. Just minutes into his professional swimming career, Shields says he already has goals for the upcoming long course season. Stick around to the end of the interview, when we present Shields with a special token to commemorate his final season as a collegiate swimmer.
