Zach Linder Leads Waukee to Iowa Boys High School State Crown

Waukee put together a dominating performance at the Iowa Boys High School State Championship, totaling 259 points. Johnston was runner up with 191 and Bettendorf finished third with 185 points.
Bettendorf opened the meet with a 200 medley relay victory. Caleb Aman, Ryan Schade, Ben Luppen, and Zach Bunn clocked a 1:34.08. Waukee’s Cameron Briggs, Grady Rogers, Gus Muenzenmay, and Jackson Kuhlers (1:35.60) were second. Ethan Johnson, Dalton Lillibridge, Misho Mahrous, and Peter Matthews (1:35.71) touched third for Ames.
Waukee’s Zach Linder earned the team’s first state title of the day with a 1:40.72 200 freestyle. The senior just out touched CR Washington senior Cameron Kelley (1:40.91). Council Bluffs’ Jackson Allmon (1:41.41) finished third.
Linder later won the 100 freestyle in another touch out. He posted a 45.81 to Johnston’s Grant Fuhr‘s 45.98. Oliver Martin of Iowa City West was third (46.36). Martin claimed gold in the 50 freestyle (20.72). Fuhr earned silver again in 20.92. Fuhr was joined on the podium by his teammate Alex Overton (20.98).
Bettendorf junior Aman touched in 1:49.43 to win the 200 IM. Waukee’s Kuhlers was second (1:51.89) and Amers’ Lillibridge rounded out the top three in 1:53.62. Kuhlers finally captured a win with a 50.11 100 butterfly. Mitchell Emery of Fort Dodge swam a 50.37 for second and Linn-Mar’s Matt Peng touched third (51.10).
Cedar Falls freshman Dylan Moffatt was crowned state champion in the 500 freestyle with his 4:32.24. Allmon was runner up (4:36.44) just ahead of Kelley (4:36.88).
Bettendorf’s Aman won the 100 backstroke (50.89). Placing second was CR Washington’s Kaleb Donels (51.11) while Iowa City High’s Forrest Frazier (52.02) touched third.
Lillibridge was on the podium again with a 100 breaststroke win in 57.87. Schade stopped the clock in 58.10 for second. With a 58.14 Dav. Central’s Andrew Shie finished third.
Johnston’s Overton, Scott Lair, Grant Lair, and Fuhr won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:25.41. Waukee’s Linder, Mitchell Pollitt, Rodgers and Briggs won silver in 1:26.46. Sioux City earned bronze as the team of Cody Ott, Nathan Gobell, Brenndan Gorski, and William Rankin touched in 1:26.75.
Fuhr, Lair, Lair, and Overton wrapped up the meet with a 400 freestyle win of 3:07.62. Linder, Rogers, Gus Muenzenmay, and Kuhlers were second (3:08.41). Bettendorf’s Zach Bunn, Charlie Bunn, Schade and Aman finished third (3:09.17).
