Video Interview: Bob Bowman Pleased With Michael Phelps’ 200 Fly Performance

After watching Michael Phelps blister the men’s 200 fly on his way to a 1:52.94, the top time in the world this year, Phelps’ longtime coach, Bob Bowman spoke to the assembled media and expressed pleasure at Phelps’ performance. Bowman disclosed than he and Phelps had shared goal times for the event in the lead-up to the meet, and he compared Phelps’ performance with those goals.
Bowman also explained some of the training Phelps had done to improve on his poor results in the 200 fly from earlier this season. He also explained what led Phelps back to the 200 fly after originally eschewing it in his comeback. Finally, Bowman also discussed Allison Schmitt’s win in the 200 free, where she posted her second sub-1:57 performance of the season.
