USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Nathan Adrian Wins 50 Free With Sterling Swim

PALO ALTO, California, August 4. CALIFORNIA's Nathan Adrian, who just missed the podium at the World Championships, bettered his time from Shanghai to win the men's 50 free at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.
Adrian clocked a 21.84 to move to fourth in the world, behind only Cesar Cielo (21.52), Bruno Fratus (21.76) and Fred Bousquet (21.78). That swim beat his Worlds time of 21.93 that had ranked him sixth. Longhorn's Jimmy Feigen grabbed second in 22.03 to move to 11th in the world, while teammate Garrett Weber-Gale took third in 22.04 for 12th in the world.
SwimMAC's Nick Brunelli placed fourth in 22.19 for 21st in the world, while Rose Bowl's Jason Lezak wound up fifth in 22.33. Tucson Ford's Adam Small (22.35), Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers (22.39), SwimMAC's Josh Schneider (22.41), Rays' Bryan Lundquist (22.57) and Auburn's Karl Krug (22.85) comprised the rest of the championship field.
California's William Copeland snatched the consolation final win with a 22.26, while BAC's Derek Toomey posted a 22.85 to win the C final heat.
