The NCAA has released the unofficial psych sheets for Division III NCAAs. After releasing the pre-selection entries on Monday, the NCAA has made selections for this year’s National Championship. Selections will become official after this weekend’s regional diving meets and the selection of those athletes.

This year only 14 to 15 men were selected in each event, including relays. That is down from 19 in the 2016 season.

Twenty to 21 women were selected in the individual events, while relays have 16 accepted entries a piece. Those numbers are consistent with last year’s selections.

Even with a consistent number of athletes on the women’s side, the times needed to qualify have dropped in most events for both genders.

The meet will take place in Shenandoah, Texas, March 15-18. Official psych sheets will become available on Monday at which time divers will also be announced.

What happened with the men? A bunch of teams getting one relay in (and its associated 4 guys) – guys who otherwise would not have qualified individually?? But to lose 4 whole rows of entries (20% of the total last year) is kind of shocking – and a painful slap at the last moment. And NO CHANGE for the women?

I completely agree. The fact that athletes were waiting anxiously to find out if they were even going to make the meet and then not making it because of a reduction in the amount of entries is quite sad. I feel the NCAA should have a better way of selecting how many people should go.
