IRVINE, California, August 5. THE individual events of what turned out to be an eventful third night of swimming at the U.S. Long Course Nationals came to a close with California's Caitlin Leverenz winning the women's 400 IM.
Leverenz posted a commanding victory of the distance medley event with a 4:35.60 for the win. She moved up to fifth in the world with only Li Xuanxu (4:34.59), Katinka Hosszu (4:34.68), Stephanie Rice (4:35.04) and Hannah Miley (4:35.06) owning faster times this year.
FAST went 2-3 in the finale as Ariana Kukors finished second in 4:37.03 and Katie Hoff took third in 4:37.51. Kukors improved upon her sixth-ranked season best of 4:37.63 set at the Austin Grand Prix, while Hoff moved up to eighth in the world from her previous best of 4:38.59 also in Austin.
Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel, who won last year in 4:36.31, took fourth in 4:39.08, while Germantown's Teresa Crippen placed fifth in 4:41.87. ASK's Dagny Knutson (4:42.90), KING's Andie Taylor (4:43.92) and SwimMAC's Justine Mueller (4:50.37) wrapped up the rest of the finale finishes.
