Swimcerely With Spindrift: Guest Texas Women’s Head Coach Carol Capitani (Podcast)
Today marks the fourth episode of Spindrift Beck’s podcast entitled Swimcerely With Spindrift. In this fourth edition, Beck talks with Texas Women’s Head Coach Carol Capitani.
Capitani is the 10th head coach in the history of the University of Texas women’s swimming and diving program. Since taking over the program in June 2012 she has led the Texas Longhorns to three straight top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a pair of ninth-place efforts in 2013 and 2014 before moving up to seventh earlier this year.
Capitani has also had some strong international assignments as the head coach of the U.S. women’s team at the 2013 Duel in the Pool as well as the assistant coach for Team USA at the 2013 World University Games.
In this episode, Capitani chats about her childhood as a swimmer, how her love of English and writing led her to coaching, and what it was like to live and coach in Singapore. She also speaks about her 14 years at the University of Georgia as Assistant Coach and Associate Head Coach and speaks to the emotions behind taking over as the head coach of a sports team at a major sports school.
Also look out for some drop ins from Laura Sogar and Bethany Adams in this episode.
Swimcerely with Spindrift is a podcast that showcases conversations with high school, collegiate, pro, and Olympic swimmers’ about their likes, dislikes, career, goals, and more. Each episode centers on a different swimmer, giving a behind-the-scenes look at what makes these athletes tick and, in some cases, what separates them as some of the best swimmers in the world.
“My favorite podcasts are ones that feature actors, writers, and comedians speaking not just about their craft but about their favorite restaurants, TV shows, telling funny stories, etc. With 2016 fast approaching, I wanted to try to bring that sort of format to swimming, so that fans can have a new type of unfiltered access to their favorite swimmers. The show is meant to be off-the-cuff, goofy, and a little different. Hopefully people will enjoy!” – Spindrift Beck
