DOHA – Ryan Lochte, already the best short course swimmer ever with 20 gold medals at the FINA World Short Course Championships, just added another accolade.
Tonight, as part of Team USA’s 800 free relay of Conor Dwyer, Lochte, Matt McLean and Tyler Clary, Lochte won his 21st short course world gold and also earned gold for the sixth straight championship.
Lochte managed to win gold in the event he first started his epic short course career – the 800 free relay. In 2004, he was part of Team USA’s winning effort as he leadoff the team of Lochte, Chad Carvin, Daniel Ketchum and Justin Mortimer to a 7:03.71 to beat the Australians by a small margin (7:03.78).
Doesn’t this also mean than Lochte has the most overall international medals, passing Michael Phelps? Lochte should now have 79 to Phelps’ 77.
Ryan… You have been training harder and smarter. Now the hard training is paying off . I am looking forward to 2016 Sao Paulo Olympics. You will make USA proud.
