Russia Posts Roster for Short Course World Championships
The Russian Swimming Federation has announced the 29 athletes that will represent their country next month at the Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada. Headlining the list are sprint star Vladimir Morozov and veteran freestyler Nikita Lobintsev, but both of Russia’s Olympic medalists from Rio are absent.
Yulia Efimova, the silver medalist in both the 100 breast and 200 breast in Rio, will miss the meet. Efimova posted on her Facebook page last week that she has been dealing with tonsilitis. Evgeny Rylov, the bronze medalist in the men’s 200 back and this year’s European Champion in the same event, will also be out of action Windsor.
The women’s roster includes Valentina Artemeva, Svetlana Chimrova, Natalia Ivaneeva, Mariya Kameneva, Irina Krivonogova, Daria Mullakaeva, Rozaliya Nasretdinova, Arina Openysheva, Veronika Popova and Daria Ustinova.
Russian men competing in Windsor will include Aleksei Brianskii, Dmitry Gorbunov, Mikhail Dorinov, Mikhail Dovgaluk, Alexander Kharlanov, Ilya Khomenko, Oleg Kostin, Alexander Krasnykh, Lobintsev, Artem Lobuzov, Morozov, Daniil Pakhomov, Daniil Pasynkov, Aleksandr Popkov, Kirill Prigoda, Andrey Shabasov, Nikolay Skvortsov, Grigoriy Tarasevich and Mikhail Vekovishchev.
