Ranomi Kromowidjojo Scorches 50 Free Indian Ocean Meet Record
Ranomi Kromowidjojo blazed her way to a meet record in the women’s 50-meter free at the short course Indian Ocean Meet.
Kromowidjojo won the splash-and-dash with a time of 23.76, not too far off her sizzling 23.24 world record from the Duel in the Pool.
Femke Heemskerk finished second in 24.35 to move to 19th in the world rankings. Zsuzsanna Jakabos placed third in 24.94.
Krisztian Takacs threw down a 21.65 to win the men’s 50-meter free. Bradley Vincent took second in 22.18 with Lorys Bourelly earning third in 22.58.
Jan Sefl set a meet record in the men’s 200-meter fly with a time of 1:54.80. That’s just a second off his 15th-ranked season best of 1:53.71 from the European Short Course Championships.
Anthony Pannier (2:04.74) and Mathieu Marquet (2:06.96) finished a distant second and third.
Zsuzsanna Jakabos touched out Lara Grangeon, 2:07.04 to 2:07.08, in the women’s 200-meter fly in one of the faster races of the day. Jakabos is ranked 11th in the world with a 2:05.16 from the European Championships, while Grangeon is ranked 5th with a 2:03.85 from the same meet. So, this ranks as a bit of an upset. Barbora Zavadova took third in 2:14.67.
Simona Baumrtova tracked down the women’s 100-meter back crown in 58.69. Femke Heemskerk took second on 58.71 in a close finish, while Barbora Zavadova finished third in 1:02.19.
Baumrtova doubled up with a 1:00.78 to win the women’s 100-meter IM. Ranomi Kromowidjojo took second in 1:00.88 with Alizee Morel placing third in 1:04.19.
Gabor Balog topped the men’s 100-meter back in 53.27. Pierre-Yves Desprez placed second in 55.99 with Damien Delmotte taking third in 58.22.
Aurelie Muller claimed the women’s 400-meter free title in 4:14.04 with Martina Elhenicka taking second in 4:16.10. Oceane Cassignol finished third in 4:17.60.
Ferry Weertman won the men’s 400-meter free in 3:46.85. Benoit Debast took second in 3:49.50 with Marc-Antoine Olivier earning third in 3:50.11.
Martina Moravcikova captured the women’s 50-meter breast in 31.82. Tessa Ip Hen Cheung finished well behind with a second-place 45.01, while Varuna Jasodanand took third in 35.26.
Mathieu Bachmann hit the wall in 29.28 to win the men’s 50-meter breast. Nathan Mandere (29.38) and Olivier Ah Ching (29.41) took second and third in one of the closer races of the day.
Yannick Chatelain earned the men’s 100-meter IM title in 56.51. Pierre-Yves Desprez took second in 57.29 with Mathieu Bachmann snaring third in 57.46.
