Race Video: Watch Michael Andrew Edge 100 Fly 15-16 NAG Record
Michael Andrew turned in his third record-breaking performance of the 2015 USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals West with a sizzler in the men’s 100-yard fly.
A day after twice lowering the men’s 200-yard IM 15-16 U.S. National Age Group record in prelims with a 1:43.94 then in finals with a 1:42.77, Andrew downed his own 15-16 mark in the 100-yard fly.
This morning, Andrew clipped his previous record of 46.36 with a 46.34 in prelims. That swim also downed the meet record of 46.42 set by Ryan Hoffer of Scottsdale last year. Hoffer qualified second behind Andrew today with a 46.44 and should give him a run in the finale.
Andrew split the race 21.41, 46.34 (24.93) this morning.
Andrew originally took the 15-16 NAG from Hoffer in September with a 46.36.
He split that race 21.63, 46.36 (24.73), while Hoffer’s previous meet record of 46.42 had been the NAG before this September. He split that race 21.70, 46.42 (24.72).
Brilliant wish we were there to witness these records getting smashed keep up the good work
Andrew’s swimming times NO other 15-year-old has ever come close to — not Phelps, not Spitz, no one.
Of course by the time he was 15 Phelps was already a wr-holder (200 fly) and shortly after his 16th birthday became a World Champion. But Andrew just aged up earlier this year and come next summer @. the Trials…who knows?
Good luck tonight, Michael. Hoffer’s gonna make you work! And speaking of the latter, 19.0 for the two-lapper ain’t too shabby. If he goes to NCSAs next March 18+ could be in the offing.
Awesome swim – congrats Michael! 🙂
Such fun to watch! Amazing young man!
