BALTIMORE, Maryland, November 3. THE North Baltimore Aquatic Club is mourning the loss of 14-year-old Louis Lowenthal. Lowenthal, a freshman at Towson High School, died Sunday after being rushed to the hospital following a Sunday morning practice at the Meadowbrook Aquatic Center according to The Baltimore Sun.
The Baltimore Sun is reporting “That night, city fire spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright said emergency personnel responded to a call at the pool about 10 a.m. Sunday, and found a lifeguard administering CPR to Louis on the pool deck.”
NBAC Director of Operations John Cadigan sent an email out to NBAC families that evening.
“A member of our swim team family, Louis Lowenthal, was hospitalized earlier today,” Cadigan wrote in the email, which was later forwarded to the Towson Times. “We have been in touch with the Lowenthals who asked that we share with you that Louis is currently in a coma.”
Lowenthal was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening by hospital officials at Sinai.
According to further reporting by CBS Baltimore, Lowenthal was found unresponsive at the bottom of the swimming pool, and that “a lifeguard pulled him out and performed CPR, but was unable to revive him.”
No further information on how Lowenthal wound up swimming without supervision, or his exact cause of death is available. An autopsy is incomplete at this time according to further reporting by CBS Baltimore.
A memorial service for Lowenthal is planned for 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 6 at Goucher College.
